MP Caleb Amisi mocks UDA-ANC merger
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has mocked the merger between the Amani National Congress (ANC) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the merger has no political significance.
In a statement on Friday, January 17, 2025, Amisi claimed that the Western and Central regions had already shifted their allegiance from the government and nothing could be done to return them to the fold.
“A merger between UDA party; a dead horse and ANC party; a beast of burden, can only produce a mule. A mule is sterile and cannot produce offsprings. Western is gone and central is gone, even if you merge all villages in western region from Ezevorogi to Sirisia to form Shamakhokho nothing will change. I am from western and it is either completely gone or gone completely. If you doubt go hold a rally in Mbale and shout UDA. Kenya needs a renaissance!” he stated.
This comes moments after UDA, led by President William Ruto, announced a merger with ANC, led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Speaking during the official ceremony at the State House, UDA National Chairperson Cecily Mbarire said the new party would see changes in its logo and symbols.
“The UDA party and the Amani National Congress have today merged as one, known as the UDA party; that is also going to change name and the branding,” Mbarire said.
“The party has incorporated ANC identity symbols in the logo, imagery, and topography and shall resultantly undertake a myriad of other changes in the governance and operations of the party.”
Party structure
Mbarire said that in the new arrangement, Lamu governor Issa Timamy, who was formerly the deputy party leader of the ANC, would be the deputy party leader of the new entity.
Also, ANC chairman Kelvin Lunani will also be incorporated into the new party leadership as the vice chairperson of the new outfit while ANC’s Secretary-General Omboko Milemba will be the deputy secretary-general of the new party.
“We are going to bring in the ANC secretariat into the new formation, including directors at the top level and staff that will help in getting this new formation forward,” Mbarire added.
