Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has weighed in on President William Ruto’s response to demands by Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during an interview with Spice FM on Thursday, April 6, 2023, Amisi stated that Ruto should have responded to every concern raised by the opposition instead of focusing only on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issues.

While terming Ruto’s response as ‘cheap’, the lawmaker alluded that the Head of State should have considered the millions of Kenyans who joined Azimio leaders in mass protests by addressing all the other issues fronted by the opposition.

“The President made it look like it was the only demand they were having, I was expecting that the president would have seen the millions of people on the streets and felt something maybe consulted and asked his powers around him,” MP Amisi said.

“The fundamental question that the president should ask himself is, what are millions of Kenyans doing on the street every Monday and Thursday at 2pm? Going on national media to respond about IEBC only was cheap,” he added.

President Ruto on Sunday, April 2, 2023, proposed bipartisan talks to address IEBC issues raised by the opposition.

On the same day, Raila called off bi-weekly demonstrations that had been going on in a bid to mount pressure on Ruto’s administration.

However, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Raila and other leaders allied to his coalition noted that the parliamentary process proposed by the Head of State was not effective.

They subsequently called for talks akin to the 2008 National Accord facilitated by the late Koffi Annan.
