MP Amisi breaks silence on delayed Ruto impeachment, insists legal steps take time
By Cynthia Lodite, June 4, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has responded to criticism for not tabling an impeachment motion against President William Ruto after securing 24K likes on X as a public support threshold.
While responding to activist Bernard Kavuli on X on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Amisi dismissed remarks that he had abandoned the quest to table an impeachment motion against President Ruto.
“WE gave Caleb Amisi 24K likes on X to TABLE an impeachment MOTION against William Ruto as requested then he VANISHED. Was he just CLOUT chasing?,” X user posted.
In his response, Amisi explained that impeachment involves mandatory legal steps and processes, assuring supporters he is proceeding with his responsibilities towards tabling the impeachment motion.
“Relax boss. Impeachment is a process. It has legal steps. You did your work let me do mine,” Amisi tweeted.

Inside Ruto’s impeachment plan
His response comes days after Amisi escalated calls for the impeachment of President William Ruto, declaring that the process is a constitutional and democratic right that should proceed alongside ongoing opposition to the Finance Bill 2026.
In a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Amisi accused unnamed individuals of attempting to portray the impeachment campaign as a distraction from the controversial Finance Bill debate.
He dismissed claims that pushing for impeachment at the same time as opposition to the Finance Bill was politically misplaced, insisting that both processes can happen simultaneously.
“There is concerted efforts from enemies of progress to paint impeachment as destruction from finance bill,” he stated.
“They can happen both at the same time.”
The legislator described impeachment as a constitutional safeguard meant to address what he termed excessive misuse of power.
“Impeachment is a constitutional safeguard against excessive misuse of power, and it is part of the democratic process,” he stated.
Amisi further intensified his rhetoric by saying Kenyans demanding accountability from leaders should not be accused of destabilising the country.
“You asked for democracy, you will be served democracy hot and burning,” he declared.
The MP also challenged reports suggesting that the impeachment motion lacked parliamentary support, dismissing claims that President Ruto’s allies have enough numbers to defeat any attempt to remove him from office.
“Another allegation: Mara Kasongo has numbers; he will win in parliament and come out boldly. That is balderdash,” he stated.
