Mohammed Ali warns of fake accounts and propaganda ahead of Mombasa campaign season
By Emmanuel Rono, May 5, 2026Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Moha Jicho Pevu, has cautioned residents against falling prey to propaganda and fake social media accounts as the country edges closer to the campaign period.
In a statement on his X account on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, Ali warned that individuals opposed to his political agenda are already spreading misinformation online in an attempt to mislead voters and derail his message.
“As we get closer to the campaign period, please be very cautious of the propaganda that will be sold to you by those who fear the change that is inevitably coming. This is a fake account,” he said, referring to a social media profile impersonating him.
Distractions won’t shift our focus
Ali emphasised that misinformation and political distractions would not shift his focus.
He insisted that his campaign remain centred on delivering development and progress for the coastal city.
“Lies will get us nowhere. No matter their many attempts at distracting us, we remain focused on one mission: progress for Mombasa,” he said.
This warning comes at a time when political activity is beginning to intensify across the county ahead of the upcoming elections.
Kalonzo endorsing Ali
Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka, during a recent rally at Kongowea in Mombasa, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, confirmed that Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali will contest the Mombasa gubernatorial seat on a Wiper ticket in the 2027 General Election.
The Wiper leader said the opposition had agreed to endorse him after consultations involving other leaders in the United Opposition.
He said the decision aimed to strengthen their chances in a county that remains politically competitive.
“Tumeungana tumfanye na tusaidie nyinyi watu wa Nyali Constituency na Mombasa Nzima,” Kalonzo told the crowd.
“Huyu bwana ambaye haogopi, hana doa lolote la wizi kwa damu yake. Kazi yake ni kumulika wezi. Tumeona anaweza kubadili maisha ya Mombasa.”
He went on to formally announce the ticket.
“Kwa hivyo mimi natangaza kwamba Mohamed Ali, alias Jicho Pevu, tutampatia tikiti ya Wiper Patriotic Front achukue kiti,” he said. “Wangapi wanatuunga mkono kwa mambo hiyo? Aah huyu ni gavana tayari.”
