Mohammed Ali blasts Mombasa County over sewage mismanagement

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has raised alarm over systemic failures in Mombasa County, citing massive financial losses and poor service delivery in the water and healthcare sectors.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 on X, Ali referenced the latest Auditor General’s report, which he said exposes the depth of mismanagement in key county institutions.

“Mombasa County Dissapoints Once Again As Auditor General’s Report Lays Bare The Deep Rot Going On?!” Mohammed Ali said.

He highlighted failures at the Coast General Hospital and the Mombasa Water Company, pointing to missing financial statements and significant losses that he says have gone unchecked.

“Audit queries before the Senate have revealed systemic failures in Mombasa County’s Water Company and Healthcare facilities. As it stands, Coast General Hospital has persistently failed to share financial statements for auditing with Mombasa Water company demonstrating a negative working capital of ksh 1.99 billion and losses amounting to Ksh 2.26 billion,” Mohammed Ali added.

Ali also drew attention to the county’s ongoing environmental negligence, criticizing the discharge of untreated sewage into the Indian Ocean.

“In this day and age, Mombasa still directs raw sewage into the indian ocean with no functioning treamtment plant. Governor Abdullswamad Nassir , what is your excuse for non-perfomance or would you rather Mombasa residents bury their head in shame for having trusted you with their city?!!” he said.

Ali called for the need for urgent intervention to address governance failures and implement sustainable solutions in the water, health, and environmental sectors.

He further emphasised that the county government must prioritize accountability, ensure proper auditing of institutions, and provide essential services to its residents.
