Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has declared an interest in the Nairobi woman representative position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Taking it to her X handle on Friday, February 6, 2026, Omanga noted that she has received concerns from the members of the public questioning what position she’s going to vie for in the upcoming general elections.

“Wengi wananiuliza Rada …2027, nitakuwepo Nairobi Women Rep. Na nitakua saana – with my people. Nimewaskia, tuko pamoja!” Omanga wrote.

Loosely translated as, “Many are asking about my plan for 2027. I will be there in the Nairobi woman representative position. I will be there with my people. I have heard you, and we are together.”

Omanga’s remarks come as Kenya prepares for the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political parties making alignments for the polls.

Omanga, however, did not make it clear which party she will be using to vie for the positions. She has, however, been a long-time ally of President Ruto and has been seen to be inclined to the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance.

Omanga challenged by Passaris in 2022

During the 2022 general elections, Omanga ran on a UDA ticket and lost to the current woman representative, Esther Passaris of the Orange Democratic Movement party, who was declared the winner in the Nairobi Woman Representative race.

Millicent Omanga came second with 586,246 votes, while Passaris garnered 698,929 votes to secure re-election.

However, it is unclear whether or not Passaris will defend her seat. In a statement shared via her X account on Friday, November 21, 2025, Passaris said that by 2027, she will have completed two full terms in the affirmative-action seat, and she believes it is time for another woman to lead.

She added that she will respect the decision of her party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), when the moment to choose her successor comes.

Passaris further denied claims that she had endorsed Karen Nyamu as her successor.

“Over the last 24 hours, I’ve seen several edited posters circulating online. Let me set the record straight. By 2027, God willing, I will have completed two full terms as Nairobi Woman Rep. This is an affirmative action seat, and I believe it is time for another woman to lead,” Passaris stated.
