Passaris hails US–Iran agreement, calls for end to hate and hostility
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has welcomed the reported peace agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as a strong demonstration of the power of dialogue in resolving global tensions and promoting international stability.
Speaking as the world marked the International Day for Countering Hate Speech on x account on Wednesday, June 18,2026, Passaris said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the reported deal reflects the positive impact of diplomatic engagement in reducing hostility and fostering cooperation among nations.
“As we mark the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, I commend the United States and Iran for choosing dialogue over hostility and diplomacy over conflict. The reported agreement, which has led to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, demonstrates the positive impact that peaceful engagement can have on global stability,” she said.
She added that even in moments of deep disagreement, nations can still find solutions through dialogue rather than confrontation, stressing that sustained engagement remains key to global peace efforts.
“The reported agreement to de-escalate tensions and reopen channels of engagement demonstrates that even in moments of deep disagreement, peaceful solutions can be achieved through dialogue rather than confrontation,” Passaris stated.

Passaris further urged global leaders to reject hate speech and promote mutual respect, noting that civility must guide international relations even when differences arise.
“Let us reaffirm our commitment to rejecting hate, promoting mutual respect, and ensuring that even when we disagree, we do so with civility and a commitment to peace,” she added.
Strait of Hormuz reopening signals easing global tensions
The Government of Kenya has also welcomed the reported agreement, terming it a major step toward global stability and reduced geopolitical tensions.
Kenya noted that the reported reopening of the Strait of Hormuz under the agreement could ease global supply chain disruptions and support energy security by stabilizing key maritime trade routes.

Officials said the development is expected to reduce economic pressure on countries affected by rising fuel costs and global uncertainty.
Call for global unity and rejection of hate speech
Kenya further emphasized the need for continued commitment to dialogue, international law, and peaceful cooperation, warning that global stability depends on mutual respect among nations.
The government reiterated that peace must go beyond the absence of conflict and must include fairness, dialogue, and shared global responsibility.
