Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has pledged to fix the country should the United Opposition, which has since rebranded to the United Alternative Government, form a government during the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Taking to his official X account on Sunday, February 22, 2026, after attending a fellowship service at PCEA Utawala, Embakasi Parish, alongside colleagues from the United Alternative Government, Matiang’i pledged to fix Kenya’s security, health, and education sectors.

He also promised to actively involve Gen Z in shaping the country’s future, should his team manage to form the next government.

“This morning, I was joined by colleagues from the United Alternative Government at PCEA Utawala, Embakasi Parish, for fellowship. We reaffirmed our commitment to fix this country. Once we form government, we will fix security, health, and education, and actively engage Gen Z in shaping Kenya’s future,” Mtiang’i stated.

United Opposition’s commitment

Matiang’i further noted the opposition coalition is committed to offering Kenyans a credible governance alternative.

The former powerful Interior CS, who served under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, has recently increased his public engagements after he was endorsed as the Jubilee Party presidential flag bearer in 2027.

He has been hitting out at President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration over failure in various sectors.

Matiang’i slams Ruto

Speaking during the fellowship service at PCEA Utawala, Matiang’i accused Ruto of misreading the national mood amid growing political tension and public anger over recent security crackdowns.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration was ignoring clear signs of public dissatisfaction, warning that continued heavy-handedness could further alienate citizens.

“Nation, even if we are not in government, we have a responsibility to say certain things. For the first time, let me say this openly, Your Excellency, Mr. President, you have once again misread the mood of the country,” he stated.

Drawing from his experience as the interior cabinet secretary for five years, Matiang’i said he understands the country’s security architecture and how intelligence assessments are conducted, suggesting that the president was either poorly advised or deliberately ignoring warning signs from the ground.

“I do not know whether you have been misadvised or you have misread, but you have misread the mood of the country. Sentiment analysis, data from the ground, and everything else – it is either they do not know, or they do not care,” he said.
