Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i has downplayed the existence of ideological differences within the united opposition coalition.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with Jubilee Party county officials in Nairobi on Monday, November 17, 2025, Matiang’i stated the presence of diverse views was not a sign of division but rather an indication of a healthy spirit of compromise for the greater good of the country.

He emphasised that the opposition coalition remains focused on consulting widely before arriving at key decisions that will truly reflect the will of Kenyans.

Agree to disagree

‘The decision to belong to the united opposition is a party decision, and I represent Jubilee in it on behalf of the party. We will be there; no one has lied to us that it will be a walk in the park, that we will sit down, and agree on everything the next day,” he said.

He further urged patience, noting that building a strong, united front would require a deliberate and inclusive dialogue and compromise.

“All those people in there are not fools. We must talk and consult from every sphere. When we disagree, we will talk it out. At the end of the day, we are all Kenyans and fully aware of what the country needs,” he added.

Matiang’ also underscored the need for those within the party to take responsibility and engage constructively and use persuasion as a path to moving forward together.

Convince others

“I believe this campaign that we are going to involve ourselves in, we are going to conquer this time around with love. Sisi hatuwezi kuingia kwa hiyo mambo ya kutukanana na watu. That is not the standard of Jubilee; that is below the standard of Jubilee. It is not our business to describe other political parties; our business is to work or argue with them, or convince them so that we move forward together,” he added.

Matiang’i also used the opportunity to urge the leaders to be good ambassadors of the party at the grassroots, saying that by doing so, the dream of clinching the presidency will be alive.
