Jubilee Party Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i has come out highly criticising police brutality and goonism, demanding that officers uphold the rule of law.

While taking to his official X account on Friday, January 30, 2026, Matiang’i backed up Gachagua, Kalonzo, and Karua’s recent march to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja’s office, demanding answers on Police brutality and goonism in the country.

This comes as the members of the United Opposition have given Kanja an ultimatum of two weeks to arrest security officers believed to be behind the Othaya church attack incident.

The opposition has further indicated that should their demand not be met by the IG by February 16, 2026, then they will be forced to call for mass action.

“I stand in solidarity with my colleagues in calling on the police to uphold the rule of law,” Matiangi wrote.

Kalonzo’s take

Wiper Patriotic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that the united opposition will not remain silent in the face of impunity and political violence in an urge to bring liberation.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Friday, January 30, 2026, the former vice president shared moments of the members of the opposition in a procession towards the office of the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.

“We will not stay silent in the face of impunity and political violence,” Kalonzo stated.

The meeting with the IG is aimed at submitting formal complaints and seeking engagement on the safety and security of opposition leaders.

In a letter written to the Inspector General, deputy party leader of the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala claims that opposition leaders and supporters have faced harassment, intimidation, and violations of rights across the country. He noted that while some incidents were reported to police stations and commands, no updates or corrective actions have been communicated.

“I write to formally notify you that the leadership of the United Opposition will visit your office to officially raise serious complaints and engage in discussions on the way forward regarding the safety and security of opposition leaders and their supporters,” Malala stated.
