Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has issued a strong warning to Mount Kenya residents against embracing the rising number of small political parties being launched in the region.

According to Malala, these new outfits are merely clones of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and are being strategically introduced to confuse voters and divide the region’s political strength.

In his address on a local radio station, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Malala urged Mt Kenya residents to rally behind the newly formed DCP, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He emphasised that these emerging parties, often led by former UDA members, are not genuine alternatives but rather disguised extensions of the UDA’s political agenda.

“Rigathi Gachagua amefungua Chama cha DCP msipoungana nyuma ya hiyo chama, na Rigathi Gachagua muanze kufwata ati kuna mtu ametoka UDA anaenda huko kando anafungua chama ingine. Hizo vyama amabzo zinafunguliwa ndogo ndogo pale Mlima Kenya ni sawia na UDA,” Malala stated.

Malala compared the developments in Mt Kenya to the trend witnessed in the Western region of Kenya, where multiple small parties such as those led by Moses Wetang’ula, Musalia Mudavadi, George Natembeya, and Boni Khalwale have been used to create the illusion of regional political diversity while still aligning with the same broader political interests.

“Hii ni sawia na vyama vidogo ambavyo vimefunguliwa western region, kama chama ya Wetang’ula, chama ya Mudavadi, ya Natembeya, Khalwale; hii ndio maneno wanaleta mlima Kenya pia nyinyi wanaleta vyama vidogo vidogo,” he said.

He cautioned the Mt Kenya electorate that unless they unite under a single, independent political outfit like DCP, the fragmentation caused by these minor parties would only serve to benefit President William Ruto by splitting the vote.

Malala urged the region to be vigilant and resist the trap of supporting parties that do not carry a clear and distinct identity from UDA, warning that doing so would directly aid Ruto’s return to power.

Through his remarks, Malala positioned the DCP as the only credible alternative with the potential to consolidate Mt Kenya’s political voice and resist what he termed as calculated manoeuvres to weaken regional unity.

“Nataka kuambia watu wa Mlima Kenya: mkiona chama chochote ambacho si cha green, hizo ni wheelbarrow ndogo hio; your ni kugawanisha kura zenu. Mkifanya hivi, William Ruto atarudi,” he added.
