Magarini MP-elect vows to work with Ruto after landslide victory

Magarini member of parliament-elect Harrison Kombe has vowed to work with President William Ruto through the broad-based government immediately after IEBC declared him as the winner of the concluded Magarini by-election after garnering 17,909 votes against 8,908 for DCP candidate Stanley Kenga.

Kombe referred the win to the confidence residents have in him and the support he received from the broad-based government and vowed not to let them down in terms of development.

“I am urging my competitors to put politics aside and work together; it is now time for development,” said Harison Kombe after IEBC Magarini Returning Officer Joseph Mwafondo declared him as the duly elected Magarini member of the National Assembly.

Kombe vowed to follow up with President William Ruto to complete the construction of the Mangarini-Ngomeni road, which will open up the areas for investment and the creation of job opportunities.

Kilifi Governor Gedion Mungaro celebrated the win by warning DCP party leader Rigadhi Gachagua to brace for a tough battle come the 2027 general election.

“The Coast region is an ODM zone, and through the broad-based government, we will ensure the DCP party does not have space here.” Added Governor Mungaro.

Mungaro, who was accompanied by Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) secretary general Kenneth Kazungu, Lamu East MP Ruweidha Obo, Kilifi North MP Ken Chonga, and Malindi MP Amina Myazi, called on coastal communities to stay united and not to tolerate leaders who propagate divisive and hateful speech.

On his part ODM deputy party leader Abdhulswamad Nassir reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring they remain in the broad-based government while urging Magarini MP-elect Harison Kombe to work with all leaders, including those who opposed him, to spearhead development in the Magarini constituency.

The Magarini by-election witnessed 33.7% voter turnout, which is 27,808 votes against 80,128 total registered voters.

From the ten candidates who contested for the Magarini parliamentary seat, Harrison Kombe garnered 17,909 votes, Stanley Kenga 8,907, and Furaha Chengo 227.
Hamadi Chadi-138, Amos Katana-182, Sarah Wahito-12, Emmanuel Kalama-60, Themo Kwicha-70, Sulubu Masha-10 votes, and Samuel Nzai-58 votes.
