Madaraka Day: Bumula MP Wamboka calls for patriotism, resilience and unity
Bumula Member of Parliament (MP) Wanami Wamboka has called on Kenyans to embrace the spirit of patriotism, resilience, sacrifice, and courage as the country marks Madaraka Day, saying the values of independence pioneers should continue guiding the nation’s future.
In a message shared via his official X account on Monday, June 1, 2026, to mark the national celebration, Wamboka said Madaraka Day remains a reminder of the struggles and sacrifices made by Kenya’s forefathers in the journey to self-rule, urging citizens to protect and build on that legacy.
“As we mark Madaraka Day, may the spirit of our forefathers espoused in patriotism, resilience, sacrifice, and courage continue to guide and shape the pursuit for a better Kenya for all,” Wamboka said.

Call for unity across the nation
Wamboka urged Kenyans to remain united despite political and social differences, saying national progress can only be achieved through cooperation and shared responsibility.
He emphasised that unity is a key pillar in strengthening governance and ensuring that development reaches all parts of the country without discrimination.
“Let us continue to work together in the spirit of unity and nationhood so that we can build a better Kenya for all,” he added.
Leaders echo unity message on Madaraka Day
His remarks come amid similar calls from national leaders marking the day, including Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i, who urged Kenyans to renew their commitment to unity, dignity, and prosperity.

In his Madaraka Day message shared on his X account on Monday, June 1, 2026, Matiang’i said the spirit of Madaraka Day should remind Kenyans of the sacrifices made by independence pioneers and the responsibility of current generations to protect those gains.
“The future of our nation rests not only on the legacy we inherited but also on the choices we make today. Let us work together to restore hope, expand opportunity, and ensure dignity for every Kenyan,” Matiang’i stated.
Honouring the spirit of Madaraka
Madaraka Day, celebrated annually on June 1, marks Kenya’s attainment of self-rule in 1963, symbolising the country’s journey toward full independence.
This year’s celebrations have sparked nationwide reflection on leadership, unity, and development, with leaders urging Kenyans to uphold the values of the independence struggle.
Wamboka concluded his message by extending goodwill to residents of Bumula Constituency and Kenyans at large.
“Happy Madaraka Day to the great people of Bumula Constituency and all Kenyans,” he said.
