Matiang’i joins worshippers at Apondo SDA church, calls for national unity and prayers for Kenya
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and Jubilee Party’s deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i joined congregants at Apondo Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ahero on Saturday, June 4, 2026, for a service of worship, thanksgiving, and fellowship, where he urged Kenyans to remain united in prayer for the country’s future.
Writing on X, Matiang’i has emphasised the importance of seeking God’s guidance during a period when Kenya continues to face social, economic and political challenges. He called on citizens to pray for wisdom, peace and unity, saying the nation’s progress depends on collective responsibility and shared values.
“This afternoon, I join the faithful at Apondo SDA Church in Ahero for a service of worship, thanksgiving, and fellowship,” Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i calls for unity
He urged Kenyans to continue praying for the country, expressing hope that God would grant leaders and citizens the wisdom to make sound decisions and the courage to build a more just and prosperous nation.
“As we gather in God’s presence, let us continue to pray for our nation, that He may grant us wisdom, unity, peace, and the courage to build a just and prosperous Kenya,” he said.
The church service brought together worshippers from the local community for a day of spiritual reflection, thanksgiving and fellowship, with prayers focusing on national cohesion, peaceful coexistence and development.

Matiang’i’s participation in the service comes as political leaders across the country increasingly use faith-based gatherings to encourage dialogue, unity and peaceful engagement amid heightened national discourse.
His message underscored the role of the church as a pillar of moral guidance and national healing while encouraging Kenyans to remain hopeful and committed to fostering peace, justice and shared prosperity.
The former Cabinet Secretary concluded by calling on citizens to work together across political, ethnic and religious divides, saying lasting national development can only be achieved through unity, mutual respect and faith.
