Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has launched a scathing attack on Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, slamming him for promoting divisive politics and warning that impeachment could be the only option if he continues with what the senator called tribal madness.

In a strongly worded statement posted on his official X account on Monday, August 18, 2025, Olekina took issue with remarks made by Duale over the weekend, where the CS spoke about political shareholding. The Senator described the comments as toxic and dangerous to Kenya’s fragile unity.

“Duale, you’re a Cabinet Secretary, a policymaker, not a tribal politician. This weekend’s shareholding talk is pure poison, dragging Kenya back to the dark days of 2007 and spreading fear,” Olekina wrote.

The Senator drew parallels between Duale’s comments and those that previously triggered political backlash against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Olekina reminded the public that Gachagua had been impeached for what he termed as the same divisive rhetoric.

“We impeached DP Gachagua for the same divisive nonsense. I honestly wonder what our problem is as a country, just when we start making progress uniting Kenyans, people like Duale pull us backwards,” Olekina said.

According to the Narok Senator, Cabinet Secretaries are expected to rise above partisan politics and tribal interests, focusing instead on creating policies that benefit all Kenyans. He argued that Duale’s position in government comes with the responsibility of fostering national unity rather than fueling tribal polarisation.

“If you think you’re above the law, think again. It’s clear: impeachment may be the only way to remind you that government belongs to ALL Kenyans, not your sub-tribe. Enough of this tribal madness!” Olekina warned.

The hard-hitting statement is likely to ignite political debate, especially within the Kenya Kwanza administration, where Duale is considered a key ally of President William Ruto. It also revives the conversation about tribalism in Kenyan politics, a topic that has historically caused deep divisions and violence.

Olekina’s remarks come at a time when the government is under pressure to deliver on its promises of inclusivity and equitable development. His attack on Duale underscores growing tension over political rhetoric that threatens to undermine efforts toward national cohesion.

The Senator’s call for possible impeachment also signals a heightened push for accountability in government. By linking Duale’s remarks to Kenya’s painful past of ethnic-driven conflicts, Olekina has positioned himself as a strong voice against tribal politics, insisting that such narratives have no place in modern governance.

With the statement already making waves online, attention now shifts to how Duale and the government will respond to Olekina’s threat, and whether this sparks a wider confrontation in Parliament over the conduct of Cabinet Secretaries.
