Kingi: Coast won’t abandon Ruto after all he’s done for us
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has assured President William Ruto of full backing from the political class in the coastal region.
Speaking during the burial of Governor Gideon Mung’aro’s father in Dabaso in Kilifi County on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Kingi opined that the coastal region cannot afford to abandon the president after all he has done to benefit the region.
“The president has all our challenges on his agenda so that people from this area can feel like Kenyans too. As coastal residents, we give you our assurance. As the leadership of this region, we are behind because of the project and programs meant to benefit us and the coastal region,” Kingi said.

Kingi also addressed the opposition directed at the president, noting that much of the criticism was due to the good work he had undertaken.
He held that the very people criticising him will soon sing his praises when he is done with the task of transforming the country.
Opposition to Ruto
“Mr President, you are being fought. I want to tell you: you are being fought because you’re strong; a weak person is never fought. It is only a successful person who can be fought. It is the reason why your enemies keep talking about you. Keep it there and don’t be moved,” he stated.
His sentiments come after Ruto, while addressing the same gathering, called on Kenyans, particularly protesters, to uphold peace and the rule of law as demonstrations continue to spread across the country.
“Even those with different opinions and even in protests, let us ensure that these protests are peaceful and not about destroying property or disturbing peace,” Ruto said.

“This is our country, and we have to protect its peace. We must operate within the law.”
The President warned against what he termed as hooliganism, looting, and destruction of property, cautioning that such acts betray the core purpose of protest and threaten national unity.
“Protests should not be to destroy peace in Kenya. We do not have another country to go to when things go wrong. It is our responsibility to keep our country safe,” he emphasized.
