Kigumo MP Kamau: Ruto’s only hope in 2027 is Raila

By , September 24, 2025

Kigumo Member of Parliament (MP) Joseph Kamau has claimed that President William Ruto’s political survival is dependent on his partner in the broad-based arrangement, Raila Odinga.

Reacting to the ODM’s leader’s latest remarks on the party’s stance on fielding a candidate in the 2027 polls, Kamau asserted that Ruto should be a worried politician following the sentiments made by the former Prime Minister on Monday, September 22, 2025.

Only Hope

“If you go across the country, I don’t think Ruto has any vote without Raila. The person who should be very worried is Ruto because if Raila bolts, he would probably be number four or five in the presidential elections.”

“His only hope is the basket being brought by Raila,” he stated during a TV interview on Wednesday, September 24, 2025..

The lawmaker has also claimed that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leader would struggle to garner three million votes if the veteran opposition leader ditches in the next general elections.

Kamau also weighed in on the timing and motive behind Raila’s recent utterances, which he says formed part of his political strategy of speaking with both ends of his mouth.

“Raila’s politics has never been about leadership; he has always been interested in being in government while bearing no responsibility. That is why he engages in double-speak, saying he is in government while at the same time claiming to be in opposition,” he added.

While asserting that Ruto should be the one concerned following Raila’s recent utterances, Kamau also acknowledged that the ODM supremo has significantly lost his political influence heading to the decisive 2027 polls.

“Raila’s base in Nyanza and Kisii has disappeared. He has also lost a huge portion of Western, which he has previously used as his negotiating block for his positions. It is no longer with him, and his negotiations henceforth will be from a position of weakness,” he added.
