Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero met with ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga on Monday, March 16, 2026, for indoor discussions at Odinga’s Riverside Drive office.

According to Kidero, the meeting focused on a broad range of issues, primarily centred on development initiatives and strategies to improve the welfare of Kenyans.

Kidero further emphasised the importance of collaboration between political leaders to address national challenges and enhance service delivery to citizens.

During the discussions, Kidero acknowledged Oburu Odinga’s experience and leadership, noting the value of guidance from seasoned political figures in shaping effective policies.

“Today I paid a courtesy call on the ODM party leader, Oburu Odinga, at his office along Riverside Drive. We held a fruitful discussion on a wide range of issues focused on development and improving the lives of our people and the Kenyan nation at large.”

“Dr Oburu is a remarkably insightful and wise leader whose experience and guidance remain invaluable.”

Evans Kidero’s political moves

Evans Kidero seems to be keeping his 2027 political cards close to his chest. He has not come out to reveal his 2027 ambitions, including the area he will be vying in and the party he will use. The former Nairobi boss was recently spotted at State House during the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants’ forum, fully donning UDA party regalia.

In mid-2025, Kidero held talks with Nairobi Members of County Assembly, fuelling speculation that he might defend his Nairobi seat rather than contest in Homa Bay, as was the case in 2022.

The veteran politician fell out with his ODM party after he was denied the party ticket, which was given to Gladys Wanga.

He then ran on an independent ticket but was eventually defeated. After this, he joined the Kenya Kwanza side and was even appointed to the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC), becoming one of President Ruto’s pointmen in the Nyanza region.

Luo Nyanza politics

This comes at a time when some politicians from Nyanza who had previously fallen out with ODM are now seemingly returning to the party, which enjoys massive support in the region. The latest example is the recently suspended Kenya Sugar Board chairman, Nicholas Gumbo, who unsuccessfully contested against Siaya Governor James Orengo in 2022.

He was welcomed back to the party by Oburu Odinga and crowned with the ODM cape.
