Kenyans on Twitter cast doubts on Ruto’s alleged tour of White House

Deputy President William Ruto’s tour of the United States has been sparked with controversy after his Communications Director Hussein Mohammed shared a clip on social media, alleging that the second-in-command was holed up in a meeting in the White House with officials of the United States government.

Hussein stated in his tweet that the Deputy President and his coalition partner Musalia Mudavadi led a delegation of Kenyan leaders who were hosted at the White House. The media personality added that Ruto and his delegation deliberated with their United States counterparts on matters of strategic partnership between the two nations.

“Kenya’s Deputy President Dr. William Ruto & former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi led a delegation that was hosted at the White House in Washington DC today, in a closed-door meeting where issues of strategic partnership between U.S.A & Kenya were discussed, including sustaining Kenya’s trajectory as a constitutional democracy,” his tweet read.

Hussein’s post has however been met with opposition after certain quarters cast doubts on the fact that the Ruto-led delegation met officials of the Joe Biden government in the White House.

Renowned pro-government blogger Pauline Njoroge rubbished Hussein’s post, stating that the presidential hopeful actually met the U.S Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee, at a building adjacent to the White House.

“He did not enter the White House. He entered the adjacent building, the Eisenhower building. Ruto did not see the inside of the White House,” she tweeted.

A faction of social media users also joined Pauline in criticizing Ruto’s communication team for allegedly misleading the public.
