Karua warn against 2027 poll rigging
PLP party leader Martha Karua has issued strong warnings against any attempts to rig the 2027 General Election, urging Kenyans to remain vigilant and actively defend their votes.
Karua posted the firm message on X on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
“Do not despair, those who threaten to rig elections should know we are equally prepared to uphold what is right and guard our votes. Ready your vote and if you dont have one, register to vote. Failing to vote is giving up our country to those who are looting and destroying it.”
Karua called on Kenyans to prepare early, register as voters, and protect their ballots. She framed participation in the electoral process as both a civic duty and a safeguard against what she described as national decline.
Her message came the same day Matiang’i delivered a similarly tough statement during a church service at PCEA Utawala, Embakasi Parish, in Nairobi.

‘You won’t steal our votes’
Speaking alongside leaders affiliated with the United Alternative Government, including Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka, Matiang’i accused the government of misreading the public mood and warned against any election manipulation.
Drawing from his tenure as Education Cabinet Secretary, when he cracked down on national examination leaks, Matiang’i declared:
“Finally, I protected the exam and it wasn’t stolen, you won’t steal our votes.”
In a follow-up post on X, he addressed William Ruto directly.
“For the first time, let me say this openly, Your Excellency, Mr. President, you have once again misread the mood of the country,” Matiang’i wrote.
“I do not know whether you have been misadvised or you have misread, but you have misread the mood of the country. Sentiment analysis, data from the ground, and everything else – it is either they do not know, or they do not care.
United opposition front
Both leaders are part of the broader opposition framework ahead of the 2027 polls. The Jubilee Party has endorsed Matiang’i as its presidential flag bearer, while Karua leads the People’s Liberation Party. Together with figures such as Gachagua and Musyoka, they are operating under the United Alternative Government banner.
In recent months, Karua has consistently stressed the importance of electoral integrity. She has warned against what she describes as tactics meant to intimidate voters through repeated claims of rigging.
Matiang’i, on his part, has promised credible governance focused on security, health, education, and the inclusion of Gen Z voices in leadership.
