Kang’ata hails Linda Mwananchi as only movement uniting all tribes in Kenya
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has praised the Linda Mwananchi political movement, describing it as the only national platform in Kenya that genuinely brings together citizens from all ethnic communities without discrimination.
Speaking during the Linda Mwananchi rally held at Kivulini Grounds in Thika on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Kang’ata said the movement reflects the spirit of national unity by accommodating Kenyans from all backgrounds, regardless of tribe, region, or political affiliation.
“Nimekuja hapa kwa sababu nne. Ya kwanza, mimi naamini Kenya ni kitu kimoja. Uwe mjaluo, uwe mkisii, uwe wa North Eastern, uwe mkikuyu, sote ni jamii moja,” Kang’ata said.
He added that the Linda Mwananchi movement, which is closely associated with opposition politics and led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has managed to break ethnic barriers that have historically shaped Kenyan politics.
“Linda Mwananchi ndio vuguvugu ambayo imeleta Wakenya wote pamoja, ikiongozwa na Sifuna. Ukweli ama uongo?” he posed, prompting cheers from the crowd.
Kang’ata emphasised that all Kenyans share a common identity and should not be divided along tribal lines, arguing that political formations must reflect national unity rather than regional or ethnic interests.
“Sote ni jamii moja na ile vuguvugu inasukuma hiyo agenda ni Linda Mwananchi,” he added.

His remarks were among the most striking moments of the rally, coming from a senior elected leader previously perceived to be aligned with the ruling establishment.
Opposition rally draws key political figures
The Thika gathering brought together several opposition-aligned leaders under the Linda Mwananchi umbrella, which has been conducting nationwide political tours ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The rally also featured prominent speeches from various leaders who criticised the current administration led by President William Ruto, while calling for political change and greater inclusivity in governance.
Kang’ata’s participation and remarks were widely interpreted as a symbolic boost to the movement’s efforts to expand its influence beyond traditional opposition strongholds.

Political realignments ahead of 2027
The governor’s endorsement of the movement adds to growing speculation about shifting political alliances ahead of the next general election, as leaders reassess their positions within Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
Kang’ata has previously signalled a departure from party politics tied to his earlier affiliations, including announcing earlier this year that he would not seek re-election on a ruling party ticket.
His public praise of Linda Mwananchi could signal broader realignments within the Mount Kenya region as leaders position themselves for 2027.
The Linda Mwananchi movement has continued to gain visibility through high-profile rallies, attracting opposition leaders, governors, and political figures advocating for reforms in governance, economic policy, and public accountability.
As campaigns intensify, the movement’s messaging around national unity and inclusivity is increasingly becoming a central theme in its political strategy.
