By , October 2, 2025

Tiaty MP William Kamket has stated that only a candidate on a UDA ticket will be voted in by the people of Baringo in the upcoming senatorial by-election.

While speaking in his constituency on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the MP, who was originally elected on Gideon Moi’s KANU ticket before defecting to UDA, emphasized that only candidates affiliated with UDA would be elected, dismissing those from other parties.

He further stated that anyone eyeing the seat on a different party ticket should not expect support from the electorate.

he further stated that anybody who habours ambitions for the seat but not on uda party should not expect any votes from the electorate.

Gideon Moi’s return

This declaration comes just after former Baringo senator Gideon Moi re-entered the race to face off against Vincent Kiprono Chemitei.

KANU, through a statement released to the public, confirmed Moi’s candidature, noting that the decision was reached after extensive consultations. The party stated that Moi’s comeback bid follows his 2022 loss to the late senator William Cheptumo.

“The Kenya African National Union (KANU) wishes to formally announce that, following extensive consultations, deliberations, and consensus within the party and with the people of Baringo, our National Chairman, Hon. Gideon Moi, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election,” read the press release in part.

In the press release, KANU expressed confidence that Moi’s leadership record and vision would resonate widely with voters. Moi, in accepting the nomination, conveyed gratitude to party members and Baringo residents for what he termed patience and steadfast support. He pledged a campaign anchored on inclusivity, accountability, and service delivery.

“In accepting this call to serve, Hon. Moi has expressed profound gratitude to KANU members, supporters, and the people of Baringo for their patience, confidence, and steadfast support.”

“He remains committed to running a people-driven campaign anchored on inclusivity, accountability, and service to all.”

“Therefore, as a party, we are confident that Hon. Gideon Moi’s candidature will resonate widely with the electorate. We call upon our supporters across Baringo County and the country at large to rally behind our chairman as we embark on this crucial journey,” it said.
