Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has stated that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party plans to take a firm political step involving several of its prominent leaders who are considered to be rebels.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, March 20, 2026, Kaluma pointed out what he described as an upcoming decision tied to party positions and alliances. He said the party intends to formally let go of specific leaders on a set date of the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC), linking the move to internal political divisions.

“On March 27, 2026, we, the ODM party, will officially release James Orengo, Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna and Osotsi to their Gachagua,” Kaluma wrote.

He went on to state that the leaders he mentioned had already aligned themselves with other political groups earlier. He said that the ODM members he mentioned had joined the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp before the late former Prime Minister and former ODM party leader Raila Odinga died.

“These guys joined Gachagua long before Raila Odinga passed on, wakora Luwere!” he wrote.

In his statement, Kaluma points to growing tensions within the ODM party, as divisions over loyalty and political direction continue to emerge among key figures.

Babu Owino: We want ODM NDC

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino came out to call for an ODM NDC so that he could take over the leadership of the party.

The lawmaker said he wants an NDC, which is the highest decision-making party organ, to be convened so that he can take over the helm of the party, a position currently held by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, who was installed following the passing of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who led the party since its inception in 2005.

Babu Owino, in his popular phrase “baada ya Baba ni Babu”, has exuded confidence in himself, declaring that after the exit of the late former premier, it is his time to take over the leadership of the Orange Party.

ODM date for NDC

ODM announced that its NDC will meet on Friday, March 27, 2026, a key gathering expected to shape the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

“As a party of ODM, we are ready to go into negotiations with other formations in the country, the like-minded,” Oburu said during the rally. “I know there are a few of them, but we are starting negotiations with our current partners in the broad-based government, which is UDA. And my party has given me authority to start negotiations,” Oburu Odinga said.
