Kalonzo issues stark warning to IEBC ahead of 2027 polls
Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a strong warning to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on the night of Sunday, March 29, 2026, Kalonzo cautioned the electoral commission against any attempts to compromise the integrity of the upcoming polls.
He described the upcoming poll as a “revolutionary election”, emphasising that it would be unlike previous electoral contests in the country.
“2027 is not a normal election; it is going to be a revolutionary election, and that is why we are calling out IEBC and telling them, You cannot afford to play with the future of this country,” Kalonzo said.

IEBC put on notice
The former vice president put the electoral commission on notice, warning that Kenyans would be closely monitoring its actions in the lead-up to the polls.
He stressed that the commission’s current leadership has a critical opportunity to restore public confidence in the electoral process by ensuring transparency and accountability.
Kalonzo warned against a repeat of disputed elections, declaring that the opposition would not accept any outcome perceived to be manipulated.
“We are watching IEBC, and the message today from where I sit is we cannot have another stolen election; this is a revolutionary election; the commissioners have the rare opportunity to get the way we have been doing our elections correct,” he said.

He referenced past electoral controversies involving former IEBC chairpersons, including Wafula Chebukati and Samuel Kivuitu, arguing that Kenya must break from a history of contested results.
The Wiper leader also raised concerns over the potential involvement of Smartmatic, warning that the firm should not be allowed to “mess up” the country’s electoral process.
“The history of Chebukati, Sam Kivuitu, and others, we cannot afford it because I have been a victim. We will not allow a situation where Smartmatic will be allowed to come and mess up this country again,” he noted.
Kalonzo’s presidential ambition
He went ahead to express confidence that he can unseat William Ruto in 2027 if selected as the flagbearer of a United Opposition coalition.
Kalonzo said he had already received a mandate to vie for the country’s top seat and is now preparing to mount a serious challenge.
“I am running for President. I was given the mandate on the 10th of October last year, the mandate to seek the high office, and prayerfully we have accepted and we are ready for it psychologically,” he said.
The Wiper Patriotic Front leader added that he believes he has the backing of Kenyans who are eager for change, noting that talks are ongoing to bring together opposition leaders under one coalition.
“I think we have the support of the Kenyan people, the Kenyan people want this change. We are in the process of forming a formidable coalition,” he said.
