Kalonzo allies issue new demands to Raila for 2027
Legislators allied to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have issued new demands to Orange Democratic Party leader Raila Odinga.
The legislators, led by Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and Kitui Rural MP David Mboni, the leaders want Raila to back the Wiper leader to contest for Presidency in 2027.
The leaders claim that the Wiper leader, having supported Raila in the last three general elections, deserves to be on the ballot come 2027 to face President William Ruto.
“This time round we are saying it is Mr Musyoka. We have done it thrice with Mr Odinga, now let us have him support our party leader,” Maanzo said.
According to Mboni, it is now time for the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader to return the favour and support Kalonzo.
“We have supported Raila thrice and we are now saying it is time he seriously considers his support for Kalonzo. As a region, we know where our support will become in 2027, and we want him (Raila) to return the favour,” Mboni said.
The demands come four years before the 2027 General Elections, in which the opposition will be looking to defeat Ruto’s government.
2022 Kalonzo-Raila fallout
Towards the 2022 General Election, Raila snubbed the Wiper supremo for Karua to be his Running Mate, triggering a temporary fallout which saw Kalonzo walk away.
Later, Kalonzo rejoined the Azimio fold towards the last minute after being promised the Prime Cabinet Secretary slot.
