Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee has come out to state that former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala is exhibiting similar characteristics to those he portrayed during his tail-end days in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), where he served as a secretary general.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, the outspoken lawmaker said Malala is in his tail-end days in the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party and would soon ditch the party and join another outfit.

“I was with Malala some time ago when he was exiting UDA as secretary general, and I asked him questions; he could not answer. I saw the same kind of him covering his face when he was leaving UDA. I saw the same when he was explaining in Mombasa; it’s the end of him in DCP,” Lotee stated.

He went on to downplay the excuse given by DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, who came out to respond to speculations surrounding Malala’s silence, stating that he was under the weather and had asked to be excused for a few days from party activities, including the three-day retreat that the DCP leader held at the Coast with 21 MPs allied to him.

Downplaying Malala’s excuse

Lotee dismissed this excuse, which he said is far from the truth, saying that there is nothing like that and that Malala never wanted to attend the three-day retreat.

“I saw Malala and the excuse he gave that he had sickness, flu or whatever. That guy never wanted to attend the retreat; he was cajoled by some people that just said, ‘Go and show your face.’ You can actually see the way he spoke,” Lotee said.

He further stated that Malala might have been persuaded by some of his allies just to make an appearance, perhaps to calm the public or to dismiss allegations of him ditching the DCP party, which has recently been facing a massive haemorrhage of members who were long allied to Gachagua but have since left to rejoin UDA and other parties.

Malala exiting DCP

This comes a day after Rigathi Gachagua was spotted with Malala amid viral claims of his exit from the DCP party.

The two were seen having a light moment at the Coast, with the former Deputy President stating that, after Malala resumed from the sick leave he had taken, he tasked him with overseeing the implementation of the outcomes of the three-day retreat on behalf of the party.

Cleophas Malala, on his side, came out to deny claims of him ditching the party, saying that he is in DCP to stay and that he cannot ditch the DCP party since, according to him, it is his baby.
