Kabogo apologises to Ruto as political supremacy battle erupts during Kiambu church service

Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo formally apologised to President William Ruto for the politically charged atmosphere witnessed during the church service at AIPCA Igegania (Karure) in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.

Speaking during the event on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the former governor of the county urged Ruto to forgive the attendees for the highly political fever pitch.

‘Tusamehe’

He added, “Mimi sijasema nitaka nini na ninafurahi kuajiriwa.”

The church function, attended by several regional leaders and Cabinet Secretaries, took on the vibes of a political rally, with some politicians cheered while others faced jeers.

Wamatangi’s struggles and warning

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi initially struggled to address the crowd amid boos that briefly rendered his speech inaudible.

He later delivered his remarks, using the occasion to send a veiled political message to his rivals:

Siasa inakuja 2027 na tutafanya hiyo wakati. Kwa sasa tumesema acha tufanye kazi. 2027 siasa itafanyika. For now, mimi ndio gavana, so be not in doubt in your mind.”

“Kwa wale wako na tashwishi watajua gavana ambaye yuko na anayekuja ni nani.”

Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah reiterated his support for President Ruto, expressing confidence that the Mount Kenya region would overwhelmingly back Ruto’s reelection in 2027:

Ruto calms the temperatures

Hakuna mtu amebebea watu wa Mt. Kenya kura zao; hao wenyewe wataamua yule watampa kura zao, na ninajua hapa tuko nyuma ya rais na tutampea kura kwa wingi.”

Ruto also addressed the charged political scene, urging the residents to be ready to make their choices known when the time to make the decision comes.

Naona hapa siasa imechacha hapa, na labda imewachanganya kidogo. Hio uchaguzi ya January itakuwa ya UDA, sio ya gavan. Kwa hiyo tulizeni boli kidogo. Mjipange alafu iyo ingine kila mtu atachaguliwa kulingana na ile kazi amefanya. Kila mtu achaguliwa kulingana na sera yake; hakuna yule atachaguliwa eti anajua matusi ama kupiganisha watu,” he said.
