Former Roots Party 2022 Presidential Running Mate Justina Wamae has cautioned that the ongoing stalemate between Kericho County Governor and Members of County Assembly in the devolved unit is a wake-up call to all the MCAs in the country.

Wamae has spoken as the Kericho County Assembly attempts to impeach Governor Mutai, citing gross misconduct and resource mismanagement. Amid the development, a bold counter has emerged from the top office itself as Governor Mutai has threatened to follow due process to dissolve the county government.

Should Governor Mutai proceed with his proposal and be approved by the relevant authorities, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), all the Kericho Members of the County Assembly will be sent home, and fresh elections will be conducted.

Taking to her official X account on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Justina Wamae said if Governor Mutai succeeds in sending the Kericho County MCAs home, all Members of the County Assemblies in the country should learn from the bold move. This development comes at a time when most MCAs and their county bosses do not have healthy working relationships across the country.

Lesson to all MCAs

”If Kericho governor Eric Mutai dissolves the county government, it will be a lesson to all MCA nationwide.” Wamae said.

Simultaneously, as the national level, the contentious National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which promised sweeping reforms around electoral justice, constitutional restructuring, and cost-of-living relief implementation, Wamae has claimed there is no new thing in the report compared to the broad-based government agreement.

Justina Wamae says even as President Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga maintain public pressure for its rollout. Wamae argued that the report is an affair between the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and ODM, with no intention to benefit the public.

‎”There is no difference between BROADBASED government and the NADCO report; it is a two-party affair purporting to benefit Kenyans.”

Meanwhile, as Kericho County is on the verge of fresh elections, and as the fate of the NADCO reforms hangs in legal limbo, voices like Wamae’s could influence both public sentiment and the next chapter of Kenya’s devolution debate.
