The rivalry between Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and outgoing Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is threatening Kenya Kwanza Alliance campaigns in the county.

It is now feared that the battle pitting the two could hand the Orange Democratic Movement gubernatorial candidate Gideon Mung’aro a smooth sail in the August 9 election.

Kingi’s Pamoja African Alliance entry into Kenya Kwanza marked the genesis of the relentless wars between the governor and Jumwa, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) governor candidate in Kilifi.

Jumwa has now accused Kingi of zoning Kilifi in favour of PAA.

She also feels her quest could be under threat from PAA’s George Kithi.

Early this month, PAA signed a pact with Jubilee under Azimio-One Kenya coalition but bolted out to join Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Kingi said he had walked out of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio outfit due to a myriad of issues, among them “mysterious deals” within the camp.

But on Tuesday, Jumwa came out guns blazing, expressing concerns that “Kingi’s poor legacy” could be costly to Ruto’s quest for presidency.

“Kilifi is a UDA zone and Kingi does not bring onboard anything new. We are very much concerned that the outgoing governor’s poor governance could affect our popularity in the region,” Jumwa said in a statement.
