Joe Mutambu says Nyanza’s support is crucial for Ruto’s political survival

Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu has declared that President William Ruto’s political future hinges entirely on the continued support of the Nyanza region.
Speaking on a morning TV talk show, Mutambu, a seasoned political analyst, emphasised the critical role played by the region’s political dynamics, particularly the influence of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“We are no longer there. We don’t have a government. And we don’t have a president because he will fall. That is the only pillar supporting Ruto. That region. And it is so because of Raila Odinga. If he withdraws his support, Ruto is kaput. Finished,” he went on to explain.
Mutambu’s comments come at a time when the political landscape in Kenya is increasingly fraught with tension, exacerbated by recent events including the abduction and subsequent release of MP Koimburi.
Lifeline for Ruto’s administration
Mutambu further elaborated on the strategic importance of Nyanza, suggesting that the region’s support is not just a matter of political alliance but a lifeline for Ruto’s administration.
“So, because they could not afford to have that pillar removed or shaken, the machinery was to be deployed to show that something is happening,” he said, implying a concerted effort to maintain the status quo.

The discussion also touched on the broader implications of these political maneuvers. Mutambu hinted at underlying governmental involvement in recent controversies.
“Like people were looking at it that the government is involved or whatever, they had to do whatever it takes to prove to the world, not only Kenyan, that they are working on it and they were not involved in any manner,” he stated.
As the conversation progressed, Mutambu expressed concern over the current state of affairs.
“But on this one, my good friend, we are in trouble. The whole thing begs one question,” the political analyst noted.
