Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga has denied reports that he has met a section of diplomatic envoys.

In a statement, Raila said he is battling a bad flu and therefore has not made any public engagements.

“I am currently under the weather, battling a strong strain of flu, hence keeping off public engagements and all meetings. I have therefore held no meeting with any envoys as reported by some media outlets,” Raila stated.

The opposition leader also claimed that Azimio co-principal and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been under house arrest since the demonstrations started this week.

“Representatives of our coalition Hon Opiyo Wandayi and Hon Jeremiah Kioni have today visited Hon Kalonzo Musyoka following his ongoing house arrest and detention,” he added.

Raila early this week called for a three-day protest against the high cost of living but has been missing in action since the demonstrations kicked off on Wednesday, July 19.

Raila was last seen in public on July 12 when he led opposition leaders in a press conference to protest the killing of at least eight protestors in various parts of the country.

According to National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, the protests have metamorphosised into a people’s movement that do not require the intervention of the opposition leader.

“Baba is very safe and is alive and kicking. When you see us here you see Baba. The protests are not his own,” Wandayi said.

Earlier on, it was reported that Kalonzo had met a number of envoys in his Karen home.
