Hamnitishi!: Winnie Odinga roars and declares no one will be chased from ODM
East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga stood firm at a packed rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra on Sunday, January 18, 2026, insisting no one will be expelled from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
She said threats will not silence her as tensions rise over the party’s direction following the death of her father, Raila Odinga. Winnie referenced the late rapper E-Sir’s hit song “Hamnitishi” to dismiss critics.
Winnie told the crowd that a song stuck in her head reflected the party’s current challenges.
“Wakati nimekuwa nikiketi hapa. Kuna nyimbo moja imekuwa ikichezwa kichwani,” she said amid cheers from the packed Kamukunji grounds.
“Hii nyimbo iliandikwa na msanii mwingine alikuwa anaitwa E-Sir, marehemu. Kijana yetu ya South C hapa. Na hiyo nyimbo ilikuwa inaitwa, Hamnitishi. Na alianza hiyo nyimbo na methali. Akasema hivi ‘vitisho vya peni mbili vitanifanya mimi nini.’ Hamnitishi! Hamnibabaishi.”
She also criticised opportunists in the party.
“On this journey, we were passengers, and Baba was the driver. One day, we woke up and were shocked. The driver had died. Slowly, some people moved to the front, grabbed the steering wheel, and pulled it in different directions,” she said.
“They pushed us, passengers, to the back. They forgot Baba died only yesterday. Why the rush? Stop the bus. Let us talk. Let us decide together and move forward.”

Winnie stressed that not everyone in ODM who claims to have supported Raila was genuine.
“We see that not everyone among us who believed in Baba was true. Some were just using him,” she said. She also assured the public that the Odinga family remains neutral in party factional battles. “As a family, we are not in either faction. We are Team Baba,” she said.
Winnie rejects claims
She also dismissed claims by some leaders that they were acting on instructions left by Raila.
“Those who are saying Baba said this or that are not well mannered,” Winnie said, calling on party members to be patient ahead of the National Delegates Congress (NDC), which she predicted would be fiery. “We want to go to the NDC and there, things will be hot,” she said.
At the same time, Winnie firmly rejected the idea of chasing away those with dissenting opinions from the party.
Winnie’s remarks come after repeated criticism from Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who has challenged her political experience and maturity, warning that backing critics like Secretary General Edwin Sifuna should compel her to exit ODM.

The MP said her upbringing and position as Raila’s daughter compelled her to speak out when she sees wrongdoing in ODM.
“As the lastborn, when you see things go wrong, lazima uchome. I have come kuchoma,” she told supporters, earning cheers from the crowd.
Winnie began her day at ACK Holy Trinity Parish in Makina, Kibra, where she spoke emotionally about her absence from the community.
“Today, we have come back home. This is a place we have come all our lives. I would like to apologise for taking so long to come back. I was a bit troubled. I didn’t know how to come back to Kibra without Baba, I didn’t know how to talk to you, I thought I’d cry,” she told the congregation. She was joined by her brother, Raila Odinga Junior, and Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto.
After the church service, Winnie and her team moved to Kamukunji Grounds.
