Governor Natembeya confirms plan to eject him from office

By , January 13, 2025

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has exposed a scheme to eject him from office before the 2027 polls.

Speaking to Kameme FM on Monday, January 13, 2025, the vocal county boss claimed that a few MCAs from Trans Nzoia had hatched the plan to kick him out and they had started convening meetings in a neighbouring city.

Natembeya attributed his current political tribulations to his hard stance regarding various issues which had made him clash with government-loyal lieutenants.

He added that the orchestrators of the plan to kick him out of office wanted to tame his influence in the region before the 2027 General Elections.

However, Natembeya expressed his willingness to face those pushing for his ouster through democratically stipulated channels.

Kuna mikutano ambayo inafanyika unapata wakilishi wodi wale wachache wanaitwa mikutano kule Eldoret na viongozi wengine ile kuenda kufanya mipango ya kunibandua mimi kutoka kwa uongozi (There are some meetings which are being held in Eldoret and a few MCAs are part of the plan to eject me from power)

Hio nikama political competition juu kuna watu wananiona kama tishio so wanataka wakutoe kabla ya 2027. Lakini Kenya ni nchi ya democrasia na kukosoa serikali sio makosa (I perceived the move as a political competition because some want to kick me out before 2027. But Kenya is a democratic country and faulting the government is not an offence),” Natembeya told Kameme FM presenters Gatonye Mbugua and Bishop Muthee Kiengei.

I won’t be silenced

Despite the mounting pressure, Natembeya maintained that he would not be silenced.

He argued that if the ouster bid sailed through, he would still have a bigger platform to articulate the issues affecting the citizenry. Natembeya thus made it clear that Trans Nzoia’s governorship position was not a do-or-die for him, but helping to bring to light the issues bedevilling the country and trying to get solutions.

“Mi nashangaa, ukinitoa kwa kiti ya ugavana utakuwa umenizuia aje kuleta shida kule mbele? Sio ati najitakia nikuwe mkubwa, ni maswala ya wananchi ndio naangalia ( I am wondering, if they remove me from the governorship position, how will that tame me? I am not doing this to get more power but just to fight for the rights of the people).

Sio lazima nikuwe gavana ndio niongelee mambo ya wananchi… wakifanya ivo ata ndio nafikiri watakuwa wamenipatia ata platform kubwa zaidi ya kuongea hawa maswala (It is not mandatory that I be the governor so that I can talk about issues affecting the citizens… If they remove me, infact I have a bigger platform to articulate the issues),” Natembeya maintained.

His current woes started after a bitter exchange that ensued between him and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah. Natembeya boldly asked President William Ruto to intervene on the issue of abductions.

The sentiments did not augur well with some pro-government officials who ended up reprimanding the Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya.
