Governor Lusaka challenges western leaders on Luhya unity
Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has reiterated the call for the unity of the Mulembe nation, proposing an ambitious unifying plan of extending an olive branch to individuals like ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Speaking during the burial of MCA James Barasa Mukhongo in Kabuchai Chwele on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Lusaka appealed for the region’s leaders to forge a united front.
“Let us unite as a people of the western region. For now our speaker is third in command,” he stated.
In a fleeting reference to the Tawe Movement, Lusaka further challenged the different political factions present in the region to rally behind the call to unite the leaders of the region rather than driving wedges between them.
Walk together
“Now if you say Wetang’ula tawe, Musalia tawe and you want us to walk together as a Luhya community, then are you uniting or dividing us?” He posed.
“We should be seeking to bring all those not with us so that we walk this journey together as one people. Even Sifuna is our son. we need to bring him back and walk this journey together,” he stated
His sentiments come after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula urged the Luhya community to unite behind President William Ruto’s second-term bid as a strategic path to capturing the presidency in 2032.

Speaking at an empowerment meeting in Luanda Constituency on Friday, Wetang’ula said political cohesion in the Mulembe Nation would be the community’s strongest ticket to State House when Ruto’s tenure ends.
“This afternoon in Luanda, I called on the Mulembe Nation to stand firmly behind President William Ruto for a second term so we can position ourselves for the presidency in 2032,” he told the cheering crowd.
During the event, the speaker also stressed the importance of forging unity at home before embarking on seeking alliances elsewhere.
Wetang’ula further emphasised on the significance of an all-inclusive leadership that encompassed the region’s politicians all working in harmony and unity in a broader political plan.
He noted the need for inclusion of politicians such as former Bungoma governor, Wycliffe Wangamati and former MPs Wafula Wamunyinyi and Eseli Simiyu.
