The National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, has engaged thousands of youths at his Bungoma residence in a landmark consultative forum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement shortly after the engagement on his official X account on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the National Assembly Speaker described the meeting as productive, as it aimed at shaping the future of the nation.

“Today, I had the privilege of hosting a delegation of young people at my rural home in Bungoma, where we held a candid and productive discussion on their role in shaping the future of our nation,” Wetang’ula stated.

During the consultative forum, Wetang’ula urged youths to take full advantage of the government’s decision to waive fees for first-time national identity card registration and ID replacement.

“Possession of this vital document not only grants access to essential services and opportunities but also empowers every citizen to exercise their constitutional right to participate in the democratic process through voting,” he said.

Rallies support for Ruto

While drumming support for President William Ruto’s succession, Wetang’ula urged the youths to turn out in large numbers in support of Ruto.

Further explaining that by turning out in large numbers, they will have an opportunity to consolidate the gains already achieved and contribute to the realisation of Kenya’s long-term development agenda.

“I further called upon the youth of Bungoma County to remain actively engaged in national development and to support the re-election of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto in the 2027 General Election,” he added.

Farouk endorses Wetang’ula

His public engagement with youths in Bungoma comes weeks after Farouk Kibet, a close aide to President William Ruto, publicly endorsed him as a possible successor to the Head of State, signalling an early political talk within Kenya Kwanza’s wider political circle.

Speaking during a Sunday rally on May 31, 2026, Kibet told supporters that leadership from the western region should be recognised at the highest level of national politics.

He used the platform to rally support for Wetang’ula, saying he believes the Speaker has reached the level of national leadership required for the presidency after Ruto’s term.

“Mimi nataka uongozi uje magaribi. Huyu Wetang’ula amekomaa kuwa rais wetu wa taifa la Kenya baada ya William Ruto,” Kibet said.

He went further, urging the crowd to openly show support for Wetang’ula and warning against political hesitation.

“Na mtoto anatunzwa nyumbani, anapendwa nyumbani. Mimi itakuwa ni aibu sana, mimi nisimame hapa alafu nyinyi mkose kushangilia Wetang’ula,” he added.

The remarks come at a time when Wetang’ula himself has been hinting at higher ambitions. In recent months, the Speaker has spoken about his long political journey, pointing to his roles as Member of Parliament, assistant minister, Cabinet minister, senator and now Speaker of the National Assembly.
