Hellen Kigia Mwangi a renowned gospel singer from Gatanga has joined the race to vie for Murang’a Senator’s seat seeking to succeed the incumbent Irungu Kang’ata.

Kigia is the first female candidate to declare her interest in the race and she is hopeful of successfully flexing muscles against her male opponents to win the seat.

While appealing to the residents to support her, Kigia said she will be vying for the seat using the Jubilee party under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

She said if elected, she will be out to advocate for the rights of the people of Murang’a and ensure their interests are catered for.

She said she is not scared of facing off her male counterparts saying she is equal to the task.

“The only support I would like to get from the party is resources so that I can be able to campaign without straining,” she said.

So far, Kigia will be competing against aspirants among them Joe Nyutu, former Senator Kembi Gitura, Peter Kagwanja, Kamau Mutuota and Charles Mwangi who have so far declared interest to vie for the seat.
