A host of political leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have gathered at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi ahead of the highly anticipated judgement on the legality of his impeachment.

Led by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala, Kirinyaga Woman Representative and Gachagua’s lawyer Njeri Maina, former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo, and East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega have expressed hope for the court to rule in favour of the former deputy president.

In a short statement on her X handle on Monday, June 8, 2026, lawyer Njeri Maina stated high hopes of finding justice in the ruling.

“Justice be our shield and defender,” Njeri stated.

Other leaders spotted at the Milimani Law Courts included Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia, Murang’a senator Joe Nyutu and Naivasha Member of Parliament Jane Kihara, among others.

Security beefed up ahead of ruling

Security was significantly heightened around the court premises as supporters, politicians, lawyers, and members of the public streamed into the Milimani Law Courts to witness the outcome of the case that could have far-reaching political implications.

The ruling is ongoing, led by a three-judge bench comprising Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi, and Antony Murima at the ceremonial hall.

The case stems from Gachagua’s impeachment motion, which was tabled in Parliament by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse. During proceedings before the three-judge bench on May 7, 2026, the court heard that Mutuse presented the motion in his capacity as an individual member of Parliament.

The court’s decision is expected to determine whether the impeachment process complied with constitutional and legal requirements, with the ruling likely to shape the political future of the former deputy president and influence the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.

All eyes are now on the Milimani Law Courts as the country awaits the verdict in one of Kenya’s most consequential political cases in recent years.
