Gachagua to maintain vigil at Mbeere North tallying centre during poll day
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to keep vigil at the Mbeere North Constituency tallying centre on Thursday, November 27, 2025, to guard his candidate’s votes.
While speaking during an interview with content creators on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Gachagua insisted that he will not vacate the tallying centre until his candidate, Newton Karish, who is vying on the Justin Muturi–led Democratic Party ticket, wins the mini polls.

“Nitakaa hapo kwa tallying centre siku mzima hadi Karish atangazwe,” Gachagua stated.
This comes at a time when he has pitched camp in Mbeere North for over a week, sometimes being forced to part with his fuel guzzlers and cruise on foot as he conducts door-to-door campaigns.
He has been engaging with Mbeere North electorates in order to neutralise the government’s heavy machinery, which they have deployed for their candidate Leonard Mathende, who is vying on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Gachagua on Monday, November 24, 2025, announced during the sit-down that he will vacate Mbeere North for some hours to travel to Narok Town, where there is a similar exercise. He also has a candidate from his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), who, according to him, is strong, and he wants to be part of his final campaigns.
Message to youngsters
Gachagua has also urged the young generation – the TikTokers and many other content creators – to help in keeping vigil on the polling day by keeping a hawk’s eye and recording anything suspicious to avoid the election results from being compromised.
He also urged them to come out in numbers and be in the queue as early as 5:00 a.m., and after voting, they should stick around the polling station, record the proceedings, and also guard the older generation who might not be early birds like them.
He also urged Mbeere North locals who are in diasporic places like Nairobi, Mombasa, and other areas within the country to travel back to the constituency and vote for Newton Karish.
He thanked a professor from the area who, according to Gachagua, had already travelled from Nairobi with his two children and was ready to take part in their democratic duty.
Exuding confidence in Karish
Gachagua also exuded confidence in his candidate, who is a musician-turned-politician and has also served as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) for two terms, saying that he is the best fit for the job and that he cannot be manipulated.
He insisted that he needs such foot soldiers to act as a dissenting voice, since other MPs from the area, according to Gachagua, are puppets of the current regime who cannot oppose anything.
“I don’t think Karish will be bought. Before I campaigned for him, I sat him down, and he assured me that he will not betray our community and the people of Mbeere North,” he said.
