Gachagua slams govt as rival factions clash during his visit to Kariobangi North
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once criticised the government for attempts to disrupt his meeting after violent clashes threatened to disrupt his visit to the Kariobangi North area on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
During his visit on Sunday, violent youths engaged in running battles across the streets as Gachagua and his entourage addressed a church function in the P.C.E.A. Kariobangi North, Berea Parish Church.
The former DP was in the company of other DCP leaders, attending the Thanksgiving function of the newly elected MCA David Wanyoike Warui.
Kariobangi by-election
The MCA clinched the seat with 2,282 votes after beating his close challengers, John Katua and ODM’s Michael Ouma Majua.
He reiterated his attacks on Ruto’s government for employing violent means to disrupt his functions, warning that the act would only alienate the people.
“Every time you plan to disrupt our meetings and beat up people, you are losing further, and this community hatred towards you grows. If you think you can make these people embrace you through intimidation and violence, you are misguided,” he stated.
The party leader also boasted of beating ODM and UDA in the by-election in Nairobi, stressing that the victory was not being talked about enough, with undue emphasis laid on their defeat in Mbeere.

His remarks were echoed by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and a host of local leaders present who gave an insight into the cause of the conflicts that also had political spillover from the recently concluded by-elections.
A section of the local leaders attributed the clash to the discontent from a rival group that was opposed to Wanyoike’s candidacy.
“When Munuve died, they took the seat and gave it to the ODM party. The contention is because we took back our seat. They usually tell us that we are Wamunyoro. We have now elected a Wamunyoro,” a ward leader from the neighbouring Mwiki area stated.
Meanwhile, speaking on his win, Warui expressed gratitude to the people for supporting his bid, despite operating on a shoestring budget.
“We did not have enough resources and means like others. We only use the single stone that we had. God blessed our efforts. Those outside this room (causing the violence) should not force us to use that one stone too,” he stated.
