Gachagua reveals plans for DCP aspirants who miss out on party ticket
The former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has come out to unveil a plan on how he intends to manage all Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) aspirants who fail to clinch elective political seats.
While speaking to a delegation from the Maa region at his Wamunyoro residence on Monday, June 23, 2025, Gachagua stated that after the election, he will sign a memorandum of understanding with all governors elected on the DCP party ticket.
According to the plan, all appointive positions in the county governments will be shared equally: half will be reserved for him and the DCP party to accommodate aspirants who vied unsuccessfully, while the other half will be left to the DCP governors to appoint individuals of their choice.
“Wale magavana ambao watakuwa kwa DCP tutakuwa na mkataba; viti yao ni nusu nusu waachie sisi kama chama, na watu wangu wote ambao wataanguka na ni wazuri nikue na pahali pa kuwapeleka,” Gachagua said.
He further explained that even in the Nairobi County Assembly, for the nominated seats, the DCP party will have an allotment for the minority positions.
He urged the delegation to identify three individuals from the region and bring them to Nairobi so he could nominate them to the minority seats.
“Hii pia Nairobi maMCA nominated, nitakuwa na nafasi ya minority, so mtanitafutia Watoto wazuri kwa Maa, mi nilete kwa jiji watatu wanakaa hapo,” he added.
Party venue launch shift
This announcement came shortly after Gachagua shifted the venue of the DCP party launch from Nairobi to the Maa region.
The event is scheduled to take place on July 7, 2025. He made the announcement during a meeting with Maa leaders at his Wamunyoro residence on June 23, 2025.
Gachagua pleaded with the community to allow the party launch to take place in their region, explaining that it was initially planned for Nairobi but had been disrupted by interference from the state.

His remarks sparked uproar from the delegation, with some members standing up in protest.
He went on to say that his past meetings have often been disrupted by hired goons, but he believes such interference will not occur once the official party launch is held in the Maa region.
He concluded by urging the delegation to scout for a private field that could host the launch event.
He reminded the locals that the DCP party belongs to them and that it is now their responsibility to identify a suitable venue, welcome visitors, and ensure the event is secure.
