The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has vowed to push for a community-based system of politics as the country plunges into campaign mode ahead of the 2027 general election.

While drumming up support for the Democratic Party’s (DP) candidate Newton Karish for the Mbeere North Member of Parliament seat in the Thursday, November 27, 2025, by-election, Gachagua has maintained that he remains active in uniting the Mount Kenya region community while charting a clear political path.

Charting common path

”We are currently engaged in an internal community discussion as we deliberate on our way forward. We are committed to charting our own political path. The results will be announced soon. Asanteni sana, wananchi wa Kaúngu Shopping Centre in Nthawa Ward, Mbeere North. We are making progress towards an equal society!” Gachagua said on Friday, November 21, 2025, while on the campaign trail.

Speaking on Thursday, November 20, 2025, while interacting with the residents of Kavengero Shopping Centre in Evurore Ward, Mbeere North Constituency, the former Deputy President also affirmed that area locals have decided to take a common route in the regional politics.

”Eyes on the prize. The people of Mbeere North are clear and resolute about their priorities. They know exactly what they want, and nothing will distract them from the future they are determined to shape. ‘We have a date with destiny.’ They told me today,” Gachagua took to his X account as he seeks support for Newton Karish over his closest challenger, Leo Muthende of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

For the better part of the week, Rigathi Gachagua has been pitching camp in Mbeere North Constituency to counter Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who has also been camping in the area campaigning for UDA’s candidate for the MP seat in the forthcoming mini polls, Leo Muthende.

The former DP spent time interacting with Mùgùka farmers in Mla Chake Muguka market, in Nthawa Ward.

”We are in the village with the people listening to them and their aspirations. We do so because it is the people at whose command we serve.  Listening to the farmers and traders here, without doubt, Mbeere North deserves a selfless representative to champion the marketing of Muguka produce and good prices. I have requested the Muguka farmers and traders to give Newton Kariuki alias Karish that chance because this is what he stands for, thus fitting the bill,” Gachagua said on Thursday on his campaign trail.
