‘We have a very patriotic Judiciary’ – Gachagua expresses faith in courts ahead of impeachment hearing
By Lutta Njomo, October 6, 2024Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed absolute faith in the Judiciary ahead of his impeachment hearing slated for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the National Assembly led by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse.
Speaking on Sunday, October 6, 2024, the Second in Command who made his first public appearance since the special impeachment motion was tabled in the parliament, held his head high insisting that the courts will be able to uphold the rule of law.
Without authoritatively revealing that he will be going to court, his sentiments insinuated that he may seek legal address over the 11 grounds tabled in parliament supporting his ouster motion.
“I have faith in our guts of law. We have competent men and women in our Judiciary who I believe will uphold the constitution, protect it with their zeal and protect the will of the Kenyan people.

“We have a good country with a rule of law as opposed to the state of nature, I appeal to all our independent institutions to uphold the rule of law and remain true to the constitution so that we don’t get into situations where we can have a country that feels the rule of the jungle is in application,” Gachagua stated.
“So far it is my observation that we have a very patriotic Judiciary, a Judiciary that upholds the rule of law and the constitution and always upholds the supremacy of our constitution and I believe that Kenya would be a country of the rule of law,” he added.
Maintain peace
In his address, Gachagua also appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and coexistence irrespective of the impeachment hearing outcome.
The Second Command insisted on the need to preserve the tenets of peaceful living and allow democracy to take its course.
Date with MPs
Gachagua is expected to face the MPs on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, where he will accorded two hours to defend himself.
Before appearing before the National Assembly or sending his legal representative, Mutuse is expected to prosecute his case and present witnesses and documents supporting the motion.
Later, the MPs will vote on the impeachment motion. If it passes, Gachagua will face the Senators who will act as a jury in the impeachment hearing.
