Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has arrived in the United Kingdom ahead of his tour in the diaspora.

In a statement on his official X account on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Gachagua announced his plans to engage with Kenyans living and working in the diaspora.

“With my delegation, my spouse, Reverend Dorcas Rigathi, and myself, I am pleased to announce that we have arrived in London, United Kingdom, to engage with Kenyans living and working in the diaspora,” Gachagua said.

On his part, Gachagua noted the significance of his trip to the United Kingdom, adding that the diaspora community comprising leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and supporters plays a vital role in shaping our country’s economic trajectory.

“The diaspora community comprising leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and supporters plays a vital role in shaping our country’s economic trajectory. However, their efforts in Kenya are often hindered by unfavourable policies,” he explained.

What Gachagua’s tour will cover

The DCP party leader explained that the trip is set to promote the Democracy for Citizens Party in the diaspora.

He went on to add that the Party’s philosophy aligns closely with the values and aspirations of the diaspora community.

“During my time in London, I will also have the opportunity to promote our party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which is currently the party of the moment. Our party’s philosophy aligns closely with the values and aspirations of the diaspora community, and I look forward to sharing our vision with them,” Gachagua explained.

Gachagua’s US visit

Gachagua had earlier made a similar visit to the United States, where he took time to tour several states, pleading with the diaspora community not to turn a blind eye to what is taking place in the country.

He urged them to take part in the political process in the nation since they contribute heavily through diaspora remittances. He also promised them a wide range of incentives, including the abolition of double taxation on diaspora remittances, saying that should he take over power, this would be a thing of the past.

Gachagua’s goodies for diaspora community

Through his DCP party, he promised the diaspora community nomination slots to the National Assembly, Senate, and county assemblies, saying that their expertise is also needed back at home.

He also promised them ambassadorial posts, since, according to him, they are well-versed in international affairs, which is essential for diplomatic issues.
