Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hailed three stunning victories for his seven-month-old Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Thursday’s ward by-elections, describing the party as the “newest kid on the block” that has whitewashed parties some over twenty years old.

Taking to his X account on Friday, November 28, 2025, Gachagua wrote: “On behalf of the @DCP_Democracy and our members I offer hearty congratulations to Douglas Masikonde, David Warui and Dickson Okwiri Aduda for winning the Narok Township, Kariobangi North and Kisa East wards respectively.”

He added, “Our party, making the newest kid in the Block, which is seven months old whitewashed old parties some old as twenty years.”

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Douglas Masikonde the winner in Narok Town Ward with 5,997 votes against UDA’s Robert Kanyinke Ole Kudate, who garnered 4,479 votes.

David Warui and Dickson Okwiri Aduda were also declared winners in Kariobangi North and Kisa East wards respectively, giving DCP a strong foothold in the newly contested areas.

Voters defy intimidation and electoral chaos

Gachagua praised voters for resisting what he described as heavy intimidation and manipulation. “I salute the people of Narok Township, Kariobangi North and Kisa East for standing up to intimidation, goons, state-sponsored militia and violent attacks by the police to exercise their democratic right,” he posted.

“I salute them for rejecting voter bribery as an ingredient of our politics.” He had earlier accused the government of deploying goons and police officers to destroy election materials after sensing defeat, stating, “After losing the Narok Township Ward by-elections, the government has sent goons and police to burn the ballot boxes and KIEMS kits, but it is too little, too late. How desperate are William Ruto and Patrick Ntutu?”

Reports from Narok and other constituencies confirmed attempts to interfere with the polls, including violent clashes and arson.

In Mbeere North, rival groups clashed outside Siakago Social Hall tallying centre, while DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa’s vehicle was torched during the elections. Despite the unrest, Gachagua urged DCP aspirants to remain close to voters, emphasising sustained engagement and grassroots connection.

Momentum ahead of 2027

The triple victory provides Gachagua and DCP with early political momentum as he rebuilds his base ahead of the 2027 General Election. “I urge all those who wish to vie for seats under our party to remain on the ground and continuously engage the electorate as they listen to them. The future looks great!” he concluded. The results highlight DCP’s growing influence and signal its capacity to challenge established parties in upcoming contests.
