Gachagua calls for immediate formation of IEBC
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has yet again called for the immediate formation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement after meeting with leaders from Kilifi County at his Wamunyoro residence on Thursday, January 23, 2025, said that the lack of reconstitution of the IEBC violates the constitution.
Furthermore, he added that the formation will enable Kenyans in the constituencies where vacancies in elective positions are to get representation.
“The formation of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is a pivotal constitutional act towards the integrity and transparency of the electoral process in Kenya. It is unconstitutional to deny any Kenyan the right to representation in the National or the county assembly.
“I am calling for the immediate formation of IEBC to enable Kenyans to get representation in areas where vacancies in elective positions are due, case in point Magarini Constituency in Kilifi County. The lack of reconstitution of the IEBC infringes on the residents of Magarini’s right to representation, which is their constitutional right, “Gachagua said.
The leaders present include Hon. Furaha Chengo Ngumbao (Kalama Wehu), a former personal assistant to a political advisor in the office of the President and Hon. Kalama, an aspirant for Magarini constituency Member of Parliament.
