Former MP Joe Mutambu warns against politicising projects ahead of 2027
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, April 29, 2026Former Mwingi Central Member of Parliament Joe Mutambu has urged the government to ensure that development projects it has begun are not abandoned based on electoral cycles and political change.
Appearing on a local TV station on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Mutambu noted that President William Ruto’s promises are made as head of state representing the government.
“If he has a promise made in a constituency towards the end of the election, whether he is leaving or not, the project will have to be done because it has begun,” Mutambu said.

Projects initiated by the government, he added, are not political but have to be completed for the benefit of the public.
“What President Ruto will say as president is not his own; he is the president on behalf of the government. So in any case, even if he will not be there, the projects will continue to be executed,” he added.
Mutambu said the public should not be distracted by short-term political statements and focus on long-term development goals, adding that infrastructure, social and economic projects are financed and implemented through government machinery, which continues to operate regardless of political leadership.

He also called on leaders to refrain from politicising development projects, noting that this erodes public confidence and impairs the delivery of services.
His statement comes at a time of intense political debate on the implementation of government projects in different constituencies, as leaders discuss the viability of development projects promised during politically sensitive times.

Mutambu also called on leaders to work across political divides to see through flagship projects, saying that steady government plans’ implementation is critical to driving economic growth, enhancing people’s lives and fostering trust in the government and its institutions across the country.
The former lawmaker has said this would help protect development agendas from political interference and ensure that the public maximises benefits irrespective of political changes. He stressed the need for leaders to be accountable at all times for the sustainable national development agenda in Kenya.
