Former LSK boss Faith Odhiambo explains why she joined Linda Mwananchi
Faith Odhiambo, the high-profile former president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), has broken her silence on her recent foray into partisan politics, framing her alignment with the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as a natural extension of her career-long battle for civil liberties.
Speaking Wednesday night, June 17, 2026, during a prime-time television interview, Odhiambo sought to push back against critics who have viewed her transition from institutional watchdog to political actor with scepticism.
“The decision to join Linda Mwananchi is not opportunism,” Faith Odhiambo stated firmly during the broadcast.
“It’s just following the principles and ethos that I’ve always believed in.”
As leader of the LSK, Odhiambo earned national recognition for her fierce legal opposition to government overreach and her vocal defence of demonstrators during periods of intense civil unrest.
Her entry into Linda Mwananchi, an increasingly influential and vocal faction within the main opposition party, signals an effort to institutionalise that activism.
For months, the Linda Mwananchi wing has sought to position itself as a progressive, reform-minded vanguard within the traditional political establishment, catching the attention of legal minds and civil society leaders.
According to Faith Odhiambo, the faction represents something far deeper than conventional party politics.
“Linda Mwananchi reflects the movement of people asking for accountability and change,” she said.
By joining the faction, Odhiambo steps directly into a fractured political landscape where traditional party lines are being actively redrawn.
However, she emphasised that her focus remains steadfastly on institutional integrity rather than political gamesmanship, citing a shared vision for constitutionalism
“We respect human rights and ask for better governance,” Faith Odhiambo added, outlining the core objectives she intends to champion within the movement.
