Former Water Permanent Secretary Joseph Wairagu has revealed that he shall be vying for the Murang’a gubernatorial seat on a Democratic Party’s ticket.

Wairagu said he picked on the party because it is one of the strongest entities and it has withstood several political storms adding that it also has better principles on leadership.

While addressing the media in Murang’a, the former PS said he is hopeful of clinching the seat during the August 9th polls.

He said he is largely banking on the support of locals who have benefited from the projects he lobbied for from the government and that have been implemented in various parts of the country.

“I may not take full credit for the projects but I played a role to have them implemented in the county,” he said.

“My mission will be to ensure the ongoing projects are completed so that the locals can benefit from them” he added.

The former PS, who has changed his name to Wairagu wa Wamaai, said he will be launching his gubernatorial bid tomorrow.

“I will officially be launching my bid tomorrow and start my campaigns to seek votes from locals,” he said.

He said he has been out of the public limelight for the past month after his resignation from the ministry so that he can strategize on his political journey.

“I was taking my time to realign myself from being a civil servant to a common person who is going out to seek for votes” he said.

He also pledged to conduct peaceful campaigns and urged his opponents to do the same to avoid causing chaos.

“I urge my competitors to embrace peace and we should avoid mudslinging each other,” he remarked.

He said the DP party leader Justin Muturi, who is also the speaker of the national assembly, will grace his occasion.

Wairagu will be facing off with senator Irungu Kang’ata, former PS Irungu Nyakera, former Kigumo Mp Jamleck Kamau, former Kandara Mp Joshua Toro and Murang’a woman representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege who have also declared interest in the seat.
