Etale urges youth to turn out as IEBC kicks off mass voter registration
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale has called on young Kenyans to take advantage of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise that has been launched by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Taking to his official X account on Monday. March 30, 2026, Etale urged the youth to register early and secure their place in shaping the country’s future.
He emphasised the importance of timely participation in the exercise, describing voter registration as a “cardinal duty” for every eligible Kenyan.
“Vijana, today the nationwide exercise of Mass Voter Registration commences in earnest. It is your cardinal duty to ensure you get out and enlist as a VOTER,” Etale stated.
Last-minute rush
He further cautioned against last-minute rushes, encouraging young people to act immediately rather than wait to be prompted.
“Wait not for the last minute, wait not to be told to REGISTER as a VOTER, just do it for your own good. Empower yourself to vote. Visit your nearest @IEBCKenya registration desk with your Identity Card or Passport and be one of the newest VOTERS in town #JeUkoKadi,” he stated.

IEBC’s ECVR target
IEBC has set a target of registering 2.5 million new voters across the country during the exercise.
IEBC Chairperson Erustus Ethekon said the nationwide drive marks a critical milestone in preparations for the 2027 General Election, with a strong focus on expanding access and increasing participation, particularly among young people and first-time voters.
“The Commission has redesigned the voter registration process to address challenges experienced in previous exercises, introducing a more inclusive and decentralised approach,” he stated.
“Under the new framework, voter registration services will be moved closer to the people, shifting from constituency offices to ward and village levels.”

Ethekon further stated that the Commission will also establish registration centres in universities and colleges to capture a significant number of eligible youth.
Additionally, IEBC will deploy resources using a data-driven model, ensuring equitable distribution of registration kits based on population size, geographic factors, and voter demand.
