Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has jibed his opponents for being troubled by his Bungoma gubernatorial candidacy.

In a statement posted on his social media page on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the MP claimed that some of his opponents in the contest had developed pressure-related complications due to his approval by the citizens.

“You see, the manner in which the wananchi have embraced me and my candidacy has caused some leaders to suffer from pressure, and others are not getting any sleep,” he stated.

The lawmaker, while affirming his intentions to continue in his bid for the county’s top seat, extended an olive branch to the area’s county assembly leadership and MP Dan Wanyama.

“I want to ask the MCAs in this region to come, and we sit down and redress the issue between us since it has now emerged that I am the most preferred candidate,” he added.

Barasa also chided Webuye MP Wanyama as he challenged the voters to persuade the legislator to support his bid.

“To my opponents who have been saying bad things about me. I want you to elect me and see whether he (Wanyama) will stay here after I become the governor. But try to talk to him so that he supports my bid,” he implored the residents.

His sentiments follow after he also took a swipe at his main challenger in the gubernatorial race, Tim Wanyonyi.

Speaking on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Barasa pledged to remain in the race against candidates he claimed were being fronted by people from Nairobi.

“I ask you to support me. I am led by the people’s interest and their concerns. I have not been fronted by anyone, and I am the project of the wananchi,” he said.

“I am confident God cannot allow the interest of one individual who was fronted after a meeting in Nairobi to override the broad interest of people of Bungoma,” he added.

The United Democratic Alliance-allied politician is expected to battle it out against former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Westlands MP Wanyonyi, who have emerged among the frontrunners in the race.
